congratulating all NaNo winners - and thinking: isn't everyone a winner who wrote even one word?
Title: quasar
Age: Ageless
About Me:
Secretly we spoke,
that wise one and me.
I said, Tell me the secrets of the world.
He said, Sh… Let silence
Tell you the secrets of the world.
Rumi
So I listened, and here's what silence had to say to me:
Who what where when why
I am here now pure being
The rest is story…
Oh yes, there were the usual ten thousand other nuggets that fell on my ears, but I find these seventeen syllables spell out their essence. And actually, I think it can be whittled down even more, to being vs. story: I'm always either being (here-now) or in some story (future/past). Go figure: you can hear/sense/forage out ten thousand wisdoms and it turns out they're all saying the same thing. But then, that's life to a T, isn't it? (Or should that be an L?) Life, tailor-made to fit the individual who's living it.
There's a lot to be said for silence…
There's a lot to be said for silence…
Ah, but there's this, too: I love to write. In fact, playing in the word sandbox is just about my favourite thing to do in the world. I love to make words fit together just so, I love to split their atoms apart, I love to wallow in the muck of them. I love to stretch the rubbery silence between them to see how much give I'll get before they all go smuckety-smuck and topsy-turvy, colliding, bouncing against one another like the little numbered balls in a lottery bubble. Who will be the next big winner? What new megastar or constellation or even universe will I find glowing, twinkling, winking at me when the dust settles?
What do I write? I write blogs, stories, haiku, poetry. I write whatever comes up. I do my best writing in freefall mode, similar to the method taught by Sandra Jensen in Diving Deeper: A Writing Workshop. In her words (well, not exactly, but the gist is there):
Don't edit, don't go back.
Go fearward, go where the energy is.
Give all the sensuous detail.
Hmm… brings to mind something Richard Bach said in Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah:
The original sin is to limit the Is. Don't.

Of course you will say that I ought to be practical and try to paint the way they want me to paint. Well, I’ll tell you a secret. I have tried and I have tried very hard, but I can’d do it. I just can’t do it! And that is why I’m just a little crazy.
Rembrandt Van Rijn
True, that’s Rembrandt, but if you insert the word ‘live’ (or even ‘be’) where he uses ‘paint’, you’ve got me, in a nutshell. Nobody knows how hard I tried to be what they wanted me to be. And nobody can even imagine how grateful I am that I couldn’t do it. Let’s hear it for failure! (Yeah!!!) And yes, here’s to “just a little crazy”-ness!
Anyone who wants to know something about me ought to look carefully at my pictures.
Gustav Klimt
Er, make that writings. Interesting how much these painter-quotes resonate with me…
Follow your inner moonlight; don’t hide the madness. You say what you want to say when you don’t care who’s listening.

It's like converting water into wine,
This notion that I can reform myself,
Or a volcano blowing its lid off
And becoming a tropical island.

Do it yourself. Be an explorer.
An explorer does not merely take
The guided tour.
Zen saying
There have been no dragons in my life, only small spiders and stepping in gum. I could have coped with the dragons.

Truth is only in the moment. There is no truth that can be carried over to the next moment, the next day, the next year. Memory never contains truth, only what is past, dead and gone.
Adyashanti
The unknown is not measurable by the known. Time cannot measure the timeless, the eternal, that immensity which has no beginning and no end. But our minds are bound to the yardstick of yesterday, today, and tomorrow, and with that yardstick we try to inquire into the unknown, to measure that which is not measurable. And when we try to measure something which is not measurable, we only get caught in words.
J. Krishnamurti
Whoever undertakes to set himself up as a judge of truth and knowledge is shipwrecked by the laughter of the gods.
Albert Einstein
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.
Albert Einstein
There are no facts, only interpretations.
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietsche
The highest form of spiritual practice is self-observation without judgement.
Swami Kripalvananda
No thought, no reflection, no analysis, no cultivation, no intention; let it settle itself.
Tilopa
Peace cannot be kept by force. It can only be achieved by understanding.
Albert Einstein
You must be the change you wish to see in the world.
Mahatma Gandhi
There is no way to peace, peace is the way.
A.J. Muste
The end of the war with the mind is the end of war.
Byron Katie
Peace doesn't require two people; it requires only one. It has to be you. The problem begins and ends there.
Byron Katie

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I'll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
doesn't make any sense.
