This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 26, 2007:
I just finished Memoirs of a Geisha, by Arthur Golden. Amazing, couldn't put it down.

Help

that was a great book rudyan. I read it some time ago. Haven’t seen the movie though. Did you read the kite runner? good book. I am reading tom’s book . do you know him. he comments sometimes-black and white picture with a beard. He wrote it some time ago and I bought from alibris books.( good place for used books). love, jenni
I haven't seen the movie either and maybe I won't now – I'm always a bit leery of seeing a movie when I've read the book. I did read Kite Runner and they're making a movie out of that one too, I heard. And the author of that has a new book out, A Thousand Splendid Suns. Quite different but really good too. I know Tom but I don't know what book he wrote – from his poetry and his other posts/comments I think he must be an amazing writer. And a very caring guy too.
I know what you are saying about movies. They rarely measure up. I am in a book club. good and bad. we are supposed to read A thousand Splendid Suns at some point. Tom is a good guy. jen
I have read Memoirs of a Geisha and loved it, I also enjoyed the movie as well (rare) the cinematography is unbeleivable. I like Gong-Li anyways who happens to be in it. I think they did a good job considering the logistics of using a mixture of Chinese speaking and Japanese speaking actors with English speaking producers and directors covering 20 + years. No easy feat.
I read the Kite Runner and if they are making movie I hope they do right by it and not screw it all up. I think the Iranian director Jafar Panahi who did the White Balloon could pull it off. Does anyone know who the director will be?
Hi Avalon,
Marc Forster is the director but apparently most of the actors are from Afghanistan. Forster directed Finding Neverland, a movie I loved. I heard that the Kite Runner movie is coming out this November.
Thanks for the info on the Geisha movie. It sounds great, I'll look for it.
Oh, I loved that book so much. I read it on a beach in Thailand and could not read any other book for some time. Personally I hated the movie. Well hate is a strong word, but I thought it pretty bad.
A movie that comes to mind that is comparable, or at least nearly as enjoyable as the book is Cold Mountain ( one of my favourite books, by the way!).
Love,
Sandra
