Indian classical music, a spiritual experience

I'm a bigtime lover of Indian classical music (especially, well, some faves are mentioned in my profile, under music) but have difficulty finding words to describe my experience of/with it. Lucky me, I came across this pithy description in David Kidney's review of the 2003 collaborative album, Indian Delta (Sense World Music, 2003), by Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (mohan veena) and Sandeep Das (tabla). I quote:
Indian music is an essentially spiritual exercise. ...It is also largely improvistory within the structure of the piece. Each player goes forward pushing and stretching the boundaries, challenging the other and yet so sympathetic to his partner's progress that a unity of mind and purpose is realized. [bold emphasis added]
Hmm, sounds a lot like the zaadz manifesto...
